The DwellixTools QR & Barcode Scanner is a fast, free, and highly secure online scanner that works directly in your web browser. Whether you need to scan a QR code from a printed paper, a barcode on a product package, or decode a screenshot image, this utility handles it without requiring any app installations or accounts.

How It Works

To scan your code, you can use either of the two convenient modes provided:

1. Scan Using Your Device Camera

  1. Click the Camera Scan tab.
  2. Select your preferred camera from the dropdown menu (for mobile phones, you can switch between the front-facing camera and the back-facing main camera).
  3. Click the Start Scanner button and grant browser camera access if prompted.
  4. Position the QR code or barcode inside the highlighted scan area. Once recognized, the result will display instantly in the right panel.

2. Scan by Uploading an Image

  1. Click the Upload Image tab.
  2. Select, paste, or drag-and-drop a photo, graphic, or screenshot (.png, .jpg, .jpeg, or .webp) containing the barcode or QR code.
  3. The scanner will automatically locate and parse the code, outputting the decoded text immediately.

Instead of just showing raw code strings, the scanner automatically identifies the contents and formats them into clean visual layouts:

  • Contact Details (vCard): Displays the name, company, role, phone, and email in a readable business card structure, with links to directly dial, email, or visit websites.
  • Wi-Fi Connections: Displays network name, security type, and password with a Show/Hide toggle.
  • SMS Messages: Separates recipient and text, offering a Send SMS launch button.
  • Phone Numbers & Emails: Displays clean caller/inbox details with direct Dial and Compose buttons.
  • Geographic Locations: Extracts lat/long coordinates with a link to Open in Google Maps.
  • Product Barcodes (UPC/EAN): Recognizes numerical barcodes and displays a quick Search on Google button for looking up product prices and specifications.

Local Browser-Side Scanning

Unlike many online scanners that upload your video frames or uploaded photos to a third-party server, DwellixTools processes all scanning entirely on your local machine.

  • The camera feed remains locally inside your browser sandbox.
  • Uploaded image files are read client-side and never sent to a server.
  • Your scan history log is stored strictly in your browser’s private localStorage and never leaves your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to scan my QR codes and barcodes online here?

Yes. All video processing and image parsing are executed in your browser. No data is sent to our servers during scanning.

Why is the scanner not recognizing my barcode or QR code?

Scan failures are usually caused by:

  1. Low Lighting: Ensure your camera lens has enough light to resolve the dark stripes.
  2. Blurry Focus: Hold your device steady and position the code 6 to 12 inches away from the lens.
  3. Low Contrast: Barcodes printed in light colors (like light blue or gray) are difficult for imaging software to distinguish. Black stripes on a white background work best.
  4. Unsupported Formats: Ensure the barcode uses a supported standard (such as Code 128, EAN, UPC, or standard QR matrix).

Do I need to install an app to scan on my iPhone or Android?

No. DwellixTools runs on native modern web browser features (the WebRTC camera API), meaning you can scan directly from Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or Edge without downloading anything from the App Store or Google Play.
